Strength before the Braid

After the cinnamon and baking soda hair coloring my scalp was itching because I should have shampooed afterwards, and my hair was dry. I learned not to turn my hair coloring sessions into a moisturizing session especially because baking soda will dry your hair out. From now on hair coloring will be done on poo days. (Poo=Shampoo). So to resolve the dryness and in part prepare my hair for braids. I did a deep conditioning pre-poo treatment by mixing an egg, some olive oil and some tea tree oil in a bowl and applying it my hair and my daughters hair.
After letting the egg condition sit, I did a moisturizing shampoo using a combination of Biolage Strengthening Shampoo and Earthly Elements Moisturizing Shampoo. I lathered one time and rinsed. Only need one lather because shampoo dries the hair out and u don't want to strip all the natural oils from your hair.  Then I mixed Renpur Organics Amazing Miracle Deep Penetrating Reconstructor with APhogee Keratin 2 minute Reconstructor.  I let that sit for the alotted time and added my deep conditioner.  The deep conditioner of choice this time was one I picked up from Sally's, it was on sale and included a free leave-in.  You can never have too much leave-in conditioner.  Besides, I haven't found "The ONE"  So it was Mixed Silk Elements, by Silk Elements.
I know it sounds like a lot, but it doesn't take that long and is so worth it for healthy hair.  Besides, I don't do this every rip, just maybe once a month.  Everything I did to my hair I did to my daughters hair, but I won't do a treatment like this on her hair for a while.  I will probably just make sure I moisturize and co-wash her hair for awhile.  I let the deep condition sit while I did some things around the house, I would say 2 hours, and then rinsed.  I added leave-ins, which are uber important for detangle-ability.  So.........Yes, I mixed......I mixed the Silk Elements leave-in called Natural Curls for natural Girls with some Cantu Shea butter leave-in, olive oil, tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint oil.
Our hair felt and looked great.  I let it air dry and began the braiding!

Kinky Twists!

I haven't had my hair braided in a while yall!  But I did it!  I finally started my kinky twists!  I say started because I am still not done.  Sad but true.  They look pretty good for the first time.  But I need to work on having the ends sticking out.  It feels real good to not have to do much to my hair.  I did notice that I need to clip my ends.  I will do it when I take my twists out. I plan to leave them in for about 4 weeks, let my hair breathe for 2 weeks, and do it all over again with the same hair.  So I will need to wash my twists and really take care of them if I am going to reuse the hair. I will post a pic soon.  I will also do a pre-braid post of some things I did to prepare the strength of my hair for braids.

Back in the day, When I was young I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I were a kid again!

Does anyone remember that song!

Do y'all remember when u were young, and it may not have happened to a lot of you, but it came a time that if u didn't wear any deordorant you would be really musty?

Well I sweated a lot and this was the case for me. My grandmother had to find me a strong deodorant. Well as I got older either I grew out of it, or the toxins were somehow removed out of my body (which is what I believe was the culprit). I didn't know anything about herbal and natural remedies or products with little to no chemicals, but I have began a quest to do more things naturally. If anyone in my family gets sick we eat garlic. We take vitamins. I use baking soda to clean my tub. I use tea tree oil for numerous things.

So to make a long story short, my oldest son is experiencing this same must phenomenon. I didn't want to use any harsh deos. so I looked for alternatives. One I found, easiest to use too, was baking soda! It really worked! Of course I tried it first. It worked on me and, our son for a little while. Then I told my husband about it and he got on board.

Well after awhile, it didn't work on my son any more. So now his routine is tea tree oil first (to kill the bacteria which causes the odor), followed by a mild deo I got from the herbal store followed by powder. This seems to do a good job so far but what I have yet to try is an elimination diet. Check out this website for more details about how body odors are caused.

Needless to say my husband and I still use the baking soda, but one day when he lifted his arm up I noticed the hair was a different color. It was lighter! This was in the winter time and I had a little hair under my arms (I like to wax y'all, shaving makes me hyperpigmentate under my arms) which had also changed colors.

So to my cinnamon conditioner of course I added some ............baking soda! After rinsing this morning I do believe I see a little more change than I would have if I only used cinnamon. But I wanted the drastic change of the underarm hair! Sounds a little odd huh! Smirk!

So I thought, how do we wear the baking soda underarm. Well last night I wet my hair and mixed baking soda, cinnamon, and Suave conditioner, applied all over my hair and rubbed it in a little.  I put a bag on my head and left it on over night. Now I will say that the cinnamon does tingle, kind of burn, but I just considered it as scalp stimulation. This morning I rinsed it out with water and did a apple cidar vinegar final rinse which by the way does help to detangle your hair. In my research it says u should shampoo after this treatment, which I highly recommend, because my scalp is still tingling. But I will shampoo wash after my run today.

Next time I will apply the baking soda dry, I don't know how that will work or how I will get it to stick. But that is for another post. The other thing I am concentrating on this memorial day weekend is preparing my hair for braids. So tonight I will do a protein treatment followed by a deep conditioner to strenthen my hair for braids.

I want some brown...cinnamon?

I want my hair color to change, but I want to do so naturally. The only thing that will lighten it, from my research, is cinnamon. The change is very subtle though. Barely enough to see a change. I believe I would have to do it over a period of time for anything noticeable. I was desparetly in meed of some moisture because I have not been following my moisture routine and I am now 12 weeks post. I don't want to shampoo my hair because my scalp is already dry and itchy. So last night I just did a co-wash. But not just any co-wash, I mixed it with cinnamon! Yes, I am going to start my color changing process!
