Cantu Products!

Just wanted to let you know that you should check your local Walgreens ad for a sale on Cantu products for $0.99!   I have heard mixed reviews about Cantu products.  I have used the leave in conditioner, but it wasn't enough to form a solid opinion.  I will mention that there is a note on the container that says do not use on new growth.  I'm like, what?!  That is what I am trying to condition here folks.  I think it may mean before you apply relaxer.  Cantu may want to clarify that though.  I am going to get me some because I need some leave in conditioner and you get $4 in register rewards!  Whoo Hoo!!!

Stick-to-it-tiveness

Hello all you healthy hair care people out there.  Keeping track of my healthy hair progress is really fun for me right now!

I have noticed that since I haven’t developed or kept a strict regimen, my hair is beginning to suffer.

When I moisturized 2x daily, my hair was easier to manage and shiny.  I don’t moisturize everyday and now it itches a lot, it looks dry and just doesn’t feel as good.  I have been through this before and there is a remedy.  I usually just do a deep condition over night and my hair feels better.

But this time I know what it is like to have moisturized hair everyday not just for a few days and I must admit I have to get back to 2x daily moisturizing.  It is not a matter of question for me right now, especially since I have more new growth now (12 weeks post), previously tex-laxed hair, and straightened relaxed hair.  I need to do something to my hair because I haven’t done anything.

So since it is a 3 day weekend I am going to do kinky twists.  Just because I will have braids, that does not mean I can get away with doing nothing.  I have researched and there is a regimen for your hair when it is braided.  I guess this is when I will begin my more hair regimented lifestyle.  I’ll keep you posted.

Don't forget to become a follower and leave a comment.  Don't have anything to say, well just become a follower.  Untill next time!  Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

Oh What Shall I Do?

Last night I co-washed my hair with a mixture of two conditioners and some olive oil. I let it air dry for awhile and then proceeded with a satin braidout, or in my case a silk scarf braidout. I was hoping it would have been dry this morning but it wasn't. I don't know if it was because of my morning jog or not. I didn't have a choice so I took it down. It still had a little wave to it, but I will need to rebraid tonight.

It started out good!

Okay, so one thing I learned since beginning this healthy hair journey for my daughters hair and my hair is not to comb unmoisturized hair! That is a big no! No! The scenario is my daughters
hair, dry and unmoisturized for several days, in a fro, and she had not been sleeping with a scarf on her head.  As you may imagine, her ends were so dry and tangled. So when I went to style it the
other night she was not a happy camper. Even when I used my glycerin spray and my conditioner mix I had a hard time parting and detangling. So for sure the next time I go to style her hair I will make
sure I have just co-washed or washed her hair. Also if I let it fro out I must braid it each night and tye it up.  Although the scarf is never on in the morning. I need to find a remedy for that. Any
suggestions? I'm learning. I must admit that the shedding and breaking and knots was still not as bad as it had been before.

It started out good!

Actual Intentions

Hi readers!  I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day!  I actually had a good time, good eats, and good company.

So Monday night I co-washed my hair with a mixture of 2 moisturixing conditioners.  I also added olive oil to the mix.  I wanted to do an apple cider rinse but it was downstairs in the kitchen and I didn't want to go and get it.  Afterwards I used a water based leave-in conditioner full strength instead of diluting with water.  The only reason I dilute with water is because the stuff is expensive and I use quite a bit but it works better at full strength especially since I am not using a creamy leave in afterwards.

In addition to the water based leave in I used a mixture of glycerin, olive oil, tea tree oil, and water to saturate my new growth and texlaxed texture.  The glycerin to me is the absolute best thing I could use on my hair and my daughters hair to moisturize my new growth and texlaxed hair and her natural hair.  It makes it soft and manageable.  I used to use CareFree curl glycerin activator but at 4 dollars a bottle, my own mixture works just as effectively.  Afterwards I detangled section by section with my wide tooth comb.  My hair is cut an uneven bob, where the front is longer, so the back was a breeze to detangle which also makes it a nightmare to style.

When I was done detangling my hair, I added a side part and smoothed some Aloe Vera gel all around the part, then on top of that I sprayed my glycerin mixture.  The Aloe Vera was for the fly aways and the glycerin mix was so that the aloe wouldn't flake.  Last but not least I tied a scarf around and went to sleep.

I call this the washandnotdrydonothinggotowork look.
I intended to be able to have a style the next day, but my hair takes forever to dry!  Sometimes even the next morning it isn't fully dry, so I have to go to work looking not my best sometimes.  On those days I may put on extra makeup or dress really cute to avert attention away from my hair, shrug, chuckle!

When I got home last night I put some moisturizer on my hair followed by olive oil then dampened with a conditioner water mix, used a flexi-rod to roll it up, and went to bed just like that.  I did put a silk scarf on top of my pillow to sleep on and let my hair completely air dry because for me the scarf traps in moisture and it still would not be dry in the morning.  My hair needs to dry from sun up to sun up.  But from now on I will use heat to do a set like that.  By the way, I haven't used heat since my relaxer in March.

We jogged this morning in prep for the 5k portion of the 1/2 marathon run.  I thought, oh it wont be too wet and maybe it will dry before I get to work.  Not!  While there was some bump there was not much curl. It wasn't too bad.  So I went with it. shrug.

I almost forgot.  My nape (which is now growing out) is still a little to short so I just braided that up in little cornrows.  Tonight I will repeat the last few steps with out the conditioner mix.

Since my training will go throughout the summer, it would behoove me to do braids.  I am going to try kinky twists.  Look out for that post.

Silk/Satin Braidout

Okay, so I picked this technique up on ZanandRob.  The waves(as I like to call them) come out nice and defined.  The braidout is better than a regular braidout where you just braid your hair, but it doesn't last as long especially with the mixture used (conditioner, water, oil).  So I plan to tweek this style because I like my hair a little more voluminous! (smirk).  So here is what it looks like with the braids:

So this is the braidout from the picture above.
The pictures below are from a different braidout.  The difference is in the braid.  In the above braidout I did my braids as ponytails, where as for this one I did cornrows.  Yes you can do cornrows with the material.  This is the front of the braid out.  Which is also my profile pic.  I enjoyed the slight volume which can be attributed to my thick new growth and texlaxed texture.  Can't wait to see what it looks like on fully texlaxed hair!

This is the side, you can see the definition and eveness of the wave pattern.
And this it what the back looked like after.  Oh it was pretty!  My hair is cut in a inverted Bob as you can clearly see in this picture.  I am having a time dealing with the shorter part that was cut really low and is now growing back, so I just decided to braid that part up in little cornrows.  You can't see them really well in this pic, but as you can tell it blended in and made my cut look even more defined.

Length Check!

I will be doing a length check for my hair and my daughters hair as soon as I figure out how to successfully post my pics.  I am having a hard time with it.

My Daughters Hair

Hello everyone!  This journey is not all about me.  My daughters hair is completely natural.  I may have straightened it once or twice in her young life, but it didn't turn out well.  I have clipped her ends maybe twice, but it was only once a year.  I don't plan to clip them again any time soon.  Also my partner in hair is supposed to chronicle her hair journey but that will be soon to come.  Anyway these pics are of my daughters hair from doing a two strand twist, but to her head.
I don't know the correct terminology for it but I found this technique on Naptural85 twisting 101.  I love her channel!  Her hair is so beautiful!

This Week.

I have learned from viewing other blogs that a routine should be set to achieve any healthy hair goal.

Texlaxed Texture

This picture is my texlaxed texture.  I don't think I ever shared my story about how I came to start my texlaxed hair journey.  Texlax is stilll getting a relaxer.  The only difference is you don't leave the relaxer in the full time and you don't work it through.
