Dilemma

The BIG question for me right now is whether or not I should go to the salon and let someone cut the rest of my relaxed/texlaxed ends off.  My aunt says I should let it grow some more.  I keep thinking I better get it cut now while it is short and wear it at its shortest now instead of waiting until it grows, seeing the length and then having to cut the length off.  That would play with my mind! LOL!

Besides, I want to use my Eco styler and do a wash and go.  Humph!

So my mom told me about this natural hair stylist she went to to cut her sister locks.  Yes my mom, my aunt, my grandmother and now my grandfather have locks.  They have sisterlocks and he has brotherlocks!  I was going to let my cousin who is a barber cut it, but when he suggested one of the ladies in his shop, I was like I might as well go to the lady my mom suggested.  My mom said they deal mostly with natural hair, so I think I would feel more comfortable.  I am sure though that any beautician can do the cut.  I'm just feeling particular.  What I noticed is that my hair is a bunch of different lengths because I was just cutting.  I want to get this cut over with so that it can grow on out.

Btw, this morning I did a co-wash with a V05 clarifying conditioner.  I saturated my hair with the conditioner, detangled, and rinsed it.  While detangling I came across a knot that pulled some hair out, but the hair was straight.  I knew for sure then that I need to get a cut and get these ends off before they are consumed by my coils.

Then I did an apple cider vinegar rinse.  I added a nice amount, but not too much, of the Cantu Shea Butter Leave-in and really worked it in good. After words I sprayed a mix of glycerin, almond oil, hot six oil, vitamine E oil, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and some tea tree oil, and water all throughout my hair and I was done.  I love this glycerin mix.  I used it alot before the big chop and hadn't taken the time to mix anymore until this morning.  The glycerin is great at moisturizing kinky, coily hair, and the oils do their part to seal, add shine, and heal my scalp from itching.  I figured it will take more than just one rinse of the apple cider vinegar to help my itchy scalp.  Love it!

Product Review-Cantu and Silk Elements

So I have been using Cantu Shea Butter leave-in and Mixed Silk by Silk Elements leave-in products interchangeably as leave-ins after I co-wash.  For my co-wash I had some Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship conditioner and I had some Suave coconut, but these are all gone.  Remember I have my daughter's hair and my own.

OFF the SUBJECT:  So I went to the local grocery and stocked up on some VO5 conditioners for $.67 cents a bottle!  I LOVE DEALS!  I got like 10 bottles of conditioner and 1 bottle of clarifying shampoo.  VICTORY is MINE!

Anywho, I was using the leaveins to saturate my hair after co-washing.  I thought it would help with the moisture and define my curls.  It did do those things, but when I saturated my hair from root to end with either of them, there would be flaking later.  I would be at work and look in the mirror and see crumbs!  LOL!  I did not like that.

As far as the Cantu is concerned, alone it makes your hair look a little dry.  Next time I use this conditioner as a leave-in I will use it with a more watery leave-in (which I used to do before I big chopped) and not saturate my hair with it.  I also must use an oil to seal after using Cantu.  As a daily conditioner I use it to make the still straight ends of my hair curl more, but when it dries it looks dry.  So I still need to add oil after using this product.  Most of the reviews I have read for this product were unfavorable, but I liked it because it was reasonably priced.  I have two huge containers of this leave-in that I will use up, but I will not buy any more any time soon.  I want to see if there is something better out there.  Try something else.

I like the consistency of the Mixed Silk by Silk Elements.  I also like the way it glides onto my hair.  I can use this as a leave-in or daily moisturizer (as long as I don't use too much) and from what I noticed with or without an oil, my hair has a sheen to it.  This is one I will definetely use, especially if it is on sale!

I am really enjoying my short hair! I LOVE IT! I know I said I was forced to big chop, but I never said I regret it!

Big Chop contd

To start where I left off:

After rinsing the deep conditioners, I began to chop.  I did add some Cantu Shea butter leave-in, Mixed Silk by silk elements leave-in to help the process along.  But mostly I chopped.  Of course after I chopped detangling became easy.  That is why I say I was forced to do the big chop.  Or forced to make up my mind.  I wasn't sure about going natural.  Not so soon.  It was all contingent on how my hair reacted after the braids.  Well I see now.  I know where I went wrong, and I have learned a major lesson.

I DON'T REGRET IT ONE BIT!!!!

I was tired of the stringy strands.  After watching so many you tube vids, I wanted to be natural too.  I attempted one time before I even watched vids and the beautician who was straigtening my hair with the pressing comb said, "with all this hair you don't need to go natual."  As I walked out of the beauty shop that day and my hair almost immediately shriveled up, I relaxed again.

NOT ANYMORE!  I love love love my natural hair, I love the length, I love the ease of style.  I love it!  Its definitely different, and everyone has to get used to seeing me with hair this short, because it has always been long and thick, but they will be alright.

My aunt and I always kid about the texture of my hair.  I showed her naptural 85's channel and she was like, "her hair is naturally curly, your hair will never look like that!"  I tried to tell her it wasn't naturally curly! But it is.  So is my hair.  It's not like mixed naturally curly, but my hair has a natural curl and coil that is all its own!  If my hair never looks like Naptural 85's, it will always look the way it was intended to look when it grows out of my head.

And with that Aunt Bebe, I go Back2Front!
